About
Hi, I’m Billy, founder of BCG performance.
This is a space where I share what I have learnt about performance, leadership, resilience, and the psychological factors that help individuals and teams operate effectively in demanding environments.
For the past 15 years, I’ve served in the Royal Air Force, working across operational and leadership roles in the UK and overseas. I’ve also spent time with the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, experiences that exposed me to high pressure situations where communication, trust, teamwork, and composure really matter.
Alongside this, I’ve always been drawn to physically and mentally demanding pursuits. Whether through endurance events, mountaineering, rock climbing, skydiving, or ultra marathons, I became increasingly interested in what allows people to continue performing when situations become uncomfortable, uncertain, or challenging.
Some of the most important lessons I’ve learned have come through setbacks and difficult experiences. A near miss skydiving incident reinforced the importance of composure and presence under pressure, while falling short during Special Forces selection taught me valuable lessons about vulnerability, self awareness, perseverance, and reflection. Those experiences helped shape the way I think about performance far more than success alone ever could.
Over time, this curiosity led me toward performance psychology. I’m currently completing an MSc in Performance Psychology through the Institute for the Psychology of Elite Performance at Bangor University, combining academic study with lessons learned through military service, team environments, sport, and leadership experience.
My interests particularly involve:
Team cohesion and culture
Leadership and communication
Confidence and performance under pressure
Resilience and recovery
Individual and team development in demanding environments
BCG Performance is not about quick fixes or motivational slogans. It’s an ongoing exploration of how people and teams can perform effectively, develop sustainably, and respond well to pressure in the real world.
More than anything, I’m interested in contributing positively to environments where people are striving to grow, perform and support one another. Whether that’s in sport, operational settings, community organisations, or leadership teams.
